My Work is in OMCA!
Y'all. So I got this email over the summer about a zine I contributed to being a part of the "Hella Feminist" exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California. At first, I thought, Oh, that's cool, and didn't think about it much after. Recently, a friend posted about performing at one of the Friday events there, and I wanted to go and experience it for myself. There are a lot of cool and thought-provoking things to see and experience that are part of this exhibit. The website describes it as a way "to challenge, provoke, and inspire visitors to reconsider and expand their understanding of feminism and its complicated history." It is inspiring and sometimes uncomfortable. Definitely very timely.
My mom and son came with me that night. We saw a bunch of cool art before we found where they were displaying the "Backbone Project" zine! I'm really grateful to have been a part of this project. There are so many stories that people haven't heard that can be healing. To then have it be a part of something like this at the museum and for me to be able to share with my mom and son was special.
It is pretty cool that this girl from the Town (like from here, from here) is part of an exhibit that so many people are also excited about. "Hella Feminist" is on view until January 8, 2023. Check it out at OMCA before it's gone! Let me know if you spotted the zine. What else stoodout for you?
